A few pictures from our awesome weekend trip to Munich, it was truly a blast. These are out of order and somewhat backwards, but the Blogger programming makes it a huge pain in the butt to reorganize them, so we'll just leave it be.

On the way home from Munich -- beautiful scenery in the alps with little cottages nestled underneath the crags.

Main cathedral in Munich, with a display of Pope Benedict XV in the front -- apparently he was the Archbishop of Munich before becoming pope. The inside was impressive but mass was going on, so we lit candles and left. Which was fine anyway... the organ church music was a cacophonous horror to the ears.

In the streets in the old section of town, near the Glockenspiel.

Painfully watching the performance of the Glockenspiel at noon... 15 minutes of total boredom.

The Glockenspiel!

Bill and our friend Maya in the Hofbrauhaus the day we leave, we ate there three times. It was amazing.

Us inside the tents of Frulingfest (the Springfest or springtime version of Oktoberfest). Some young (rich -- one had a summer home in Venice) German girls we met informed us that Frulingfest was mostly for "how do yoo say eet? Vite Trash?"

Jess and our friend Rob Green inside the Frulingfest tents.

Neat gothic architecture in the old part of the city.

Jess munching on the famous 1/2 meter sausage with spicy mustard.

Outside the main cathedral, resting.

Group shot kindly taken by our waitress Hofbrauhaus, the first night we arrived.

Distance of the Springfest carnival.

The beertent was massive. There is only one for Springfest but for Oktoberfest there are supposed to be 4 of these things. A traditional German band played happy 2/2 German music and all the servers wore leiderhosen or the female equivalent. We saw one woman who was carrying 12 huge mugs (= 12 liters) of Augustiner beer to a table.

The ferris wheel, which was quite large, at Springfest.

Table shot of the group in the beerhall, or bierhalle.

Shot of the loud and raucous Hofbrauhaus, first night we arrived. Complete with lederhosen-clad band and old German men with funny beards and hats.

Rob and Drew, enjoying their beers.

Maya, however, does not like beer.

Us inside of Hofbrauhaus. Jess couldn't figure out why her beer was sweet until she found out that it was mixed with "lemonade", basically Sprite, which is apparently a German convention; you could order beer with lemonade in any beer hall. Bill enjoyed the dark beer, Dunkel.

Bill and Maya in Hofbrauhaus.

The entrance sign to the concentration camp, Dachau.

The guard gate to Dachau, and entryway through which all the prisoners passed.

Us (Maya in background) waiting for the bus back to Munich.

Memorial sculpture in Dachau, in front of the memorial museum.

Everyone excitedly pointing at the Glockenspiel the day we arrived.
Enjoy!
Much love,
Jess & Bill

HI Jess and Bill,
Thank you for the last two blogs. Sorry we haven't responded as we were in California. We just got back today!
What great pictures. You guys look like you had a blast. What great memories you are creating together and also what great friends at the same time.
I am unsure if you are on the coast this weekend or next weekend. I look forward to that blog and those pictures as well. We took some great shots in Yosemite maybe you could see them in Ellie's blog when she posts them.
I can't tell you how much I miss the two of you. Your happy faces and your smooching or PDA. I miss that so much, it is such a part of you two. The picure of the two of you kissing across the table is one ofmy favorites as well as the two of you hugging with Jess looking up to the sky and Bill smiling away at the c amera.
By your clothing, it looks like it was a little cold.
here it is in the 70's and the the trees are flowering and the trees are budding their leaves as well. Spring has sprung. Going to see you friends in upstate sounds like a great idea by the way.
Love to read about you guys. Keep up the good work.
Love,
Mom
